Been a Busy Bee

Here's What's New:
So we bought a house and I love it! and all things I have been doing lately are house related. We moved in on the hottest day of the summer. I am fairly certain I lost like 10 pounds just by sweating. Hopefully, I will be setting up my studio here in a couple days. So excited to have my own space to create art in.

So all of that considered, this blog has not been lost on me.

Vevo wouldn't let me post the link to the video, which is fantastic Sara Bareilles- Brave. Below is her Craig Ferguson performance form July 23rd, 2013

Here is another one of her songs Gravity, on one of  my favorite shows So You Think You Can Dance.
It is Kayla and Kupono doing Addiction choreographed by Mia Micheal's.

This performance gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.

I Die A Little On The Inside....

So I was originally going to write about my severe distaste for Glee's rendition of Dancing On My Own, but then I found this, and this made me happy.

Patty Griffin made a Tiny Desk Concert! I used to listen to her while I cleaned my friends apartment for concert ticket money. Happy memories, of discussing music with my friend. And there is an accordion involved, if you need to know anything is that I love an accordion in my music.

Here is another one of my absolute favorites by her...

Well Maybe I'm A Crook...

This last Tuesday I had the pleasure of kicking off my Summer Show Line Up with

(I didn't post right after because I went on a Mindy Project Season 1 binge, great show)

They were fantastic. Since this was their first album tour (My Head is an Animal) it was the basic run down of the album with the added bonus of covering Yeah, Yeah Yeahs Skeletons, and playing a song that didn't make the album. I think one of the more interesting parts was actually watching one of the bassists jam out on his own on the side stage. (Right side)

Even though it started out rainy, this was a great concert. I may have been soggy, it was worth every minute.

So I bring to you one of my favorites by Of Monsters and Men, Love Love Love

I think on of my favorite aspects of this band is that their music can be quiet, but it has a lot of beat, and presence.

ENJOY!

I Had A Hard Time...

So I am super excited to announce that Local Natives are touring. How freaking awesome?! I really hope to make it to their show. The current adventure I am on has locked down my show seeing abilities.

I fell in love with the Local Natives through my common outlet of new music which it NPR Tiny Desk Concerts. One of the leads has a fantastic mustache which lead me to intensely watch him sing/play his insturment. Their first album Gorilla Manor has some of the best road trip songs. Their sophomore album Hummingbird is still new to me. It has a slightly different vibe, but like all artists you have to grow. I really hope I get to see them live.

Here is two songs one from their new album and one of my favorites from the old album.

This wasn't the original one I was going to pick, but I think it really highlights the raw talent that the Local Natives have. In my opinion you have to be able to really kill it live.

I had a hard time picking one song from this album, because I love the whole thing.

Enjoy!

New Discovery

So I was perusing Youtube for something to catch my attention, and I came across Lucius. They have this 50's-60's feel. They girls dress alike as do the men. They have amazing harmonies, and I really think there is something to be said about the quite bits in the song. It is like the negative space in a piece of art. When you listen to this song I think you will understand what I am saying, even if it is only a brief moment.

Happy Mothers Day

ENjoy!

Spirits Trapped Inside The Linens...

So I have had a bit of a dry spell when it comes to music. I haven't discovered anything new in a while, besides Macklemore. Recently, I woke up with a lyric in my head,

"Thinking softly what a tinder box we live in, and what a flammable heart I have been given"

What a fantastic line. I like the idea that we live in a fragile stasis, and your heart can rule your actions. That your actions can burn that stasis to the ground.

Gowalla's Contest Winner for the Location Video- Brookography, did a beautiful rendition.

I Wish My Name Was Clementine

I love this song. I don't care for the video. I get such a different feel from the song, then the video. So I chose the non video, video. I actually ran across this song on Tumblr a few summers ago.

I love when I hear the songs that resonate with me in movies and shows. Recently, heard it in "Safety Not Guaranteed"  a fantastic movie about possibility, love, and time travel. It also was played in the Season 8 Finale of One Tree Hill.

Here is a link to the artists video.

This was a self portrait I did for Sketchbook Tour 2012, referencing this song.
Art House Co-Op, does this fantastic thing, in bringing many artists work, and showing it all around the country. They also do other projects, which helps keep creativity flowing.

Enjoy

Summer, Summer Time...

So school is officially out for summer. Yes, I know it is only April, but I am still pumped. So to celebrate the beginning of summer, and a throwback to all of the 90's kids. Here is a classic...

I would also like to comment on the fact that I hate my computer, which has led to less blogging.

I would also like to share, my sweet cat video! I made it in class, messing around with transitions, and cutting clips. Cat Vs. Sheet

We're Just Two Lost Souls, Swimming in a Fish Bowl

I love the opening to this song. It is so simple yet so direct. Note: If you are listening with earbuds you will only be able to hear it in one for the first few seconds, and if you put only the other in you can hear someone giggle in the other ear.

I love the line "We're just two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl." So beautiful. Anyways, I heard this today, and was reminded of how much I love this song.

Enjoy!!

I Have Not Abandoned Thee, Just Yet...

Well, it has been a while. I guess I have to work on getting back into the swing of posting. The semester is ending, and I am getting all my last minute project editing in. Today, I heard a great oldie at work. My work has come along way in terms of music. It was horrific a few years ago.

This song has such a great groove.

An what a fantastic outfit!! I mean so many sequins!!

Enjoy!!

Because the Grey Will Not Let Up...

Because the grey will not let up, today I do not bring you a music video.
I bring you cat videos.
I challenge you to NOT have a smile on your face after you watch these.

Say it with me now "Awwww"

Epic Fails
Some of my favorite videos are of cats who attempt to make the jump and don't make it. I die every time.

Then you have the classic Cat wooping Dog ass

And Lastly, Cat's taking baths
.

Stunning With My Love Glue Gunnin'

Lady Gaga, I love her, and her music. This song was the introduction to her music. I was so against her music, then I saw this video and it was like a light came on. I have been hooked ever since. She represents so much for a generation. She reminds me of a Pop Artist Andy Warhol.

Enjoy!

The Grey Seeps...

The grey seeps into my veins sucking me dry...

So I bring to you this one hit wonder that brought me joy...

Let's take a minute to revel in the oh so 90's gear. Acid wash shorts and a cow print button down. Fantastic!
The art is kind of interesting in the background, and the lead being doused in blue paint, very Post Modern. The colors help counter act the very grey week we have had.

Enjoy!

Bankrupt!

Todays' awesome musical goodness comes from the band Phoenix, whose new album is highly anticipated, by ME! Their new album is called Bankrupt, out April 23rd 2013. I really hope that they do a full US Tour.

Optimism Filter

So my teacher asks us what is our Optimism Filter. What do you need to have a positive day?

My Optimism Filter today has been copious amounts of chocolate. It was so grey today I think it had a direct effect on my mood. It makes me feel sluggish, and grumpy.

Another Optimism Filter I have is music.
Music with uplifting  beats.

I have been using this song to get pumped up in the morning.

Enjoy!!

Two-fers

SO! I chose sleep over blogging last night. My apologies to anyone who may be following, if you are out there. For that I bring to you a two-fer. Two videos I just recently saw and was impressed by the innovation and mad choreography.

First Off!!

Crazy video, and concept. I am highly impressed.

Secondly...

Holy Choreography! For real.

I have no personal link to OK Go or to the songs, but I am definitely intrigued. These videos may lead to a new discovery for me.

Enjoy!

YouTube Binge

SO, I went on a No Doubt/Gwen Stefani Youtube binge last night. I am just sort of introducing myself to the new album Push and Shove. Nothing beats Tragic Kingdom though, and their mainstream arrival to the music scene. They blew my mind.

It is interesting to see the bands metamorphosis. Just A Girl will always have a special place in my heart. The guitar riffs, and of course being a girl I can relate to the subject matter.

4 In The Morning was a song off of Gwen's album. The video seemed really authentic, and her style is fabulous in this video..

As a wrap up I think Running is a great video to show the growth of the band. It has a great montage of photos of the band. I love this song too. They lyrics are great, and the delicateness of the song.

I heard because they were on such a role with songs, that instead of rushing to tour they were heading back to the studio to work on additional songs. This is one show I will NOT miss!

I Woke Up With This in My Head.

I love the line

"We're not broke we're just bent"

I feel like Nate Ruess (Fun.) can really match Pink in her vocals too. It makes the song powerful, and definitely gives me goosebumps.

Enjoy!!

Don't You Know?

I heard today's song in the Starbucks drive thru. Epic.

"Don't you know that you are a shooting star?"
Great lyric.

This song is tied to a memory of one of the very few times I have seen my sister dance.

On another note, I totally got Lumineers tickets! The video was good luck

Enjoy!

Ho Hey!

This song is for good luck on the purchasing of Lumineers Tickets tomorrow! I love them so much, they have gotten so much play in my car these past months. They have such a great vibe to their music. I am psyched they are coming to town soon. I really thought I had missed out on seeing them. This summer is shaping up to have some great shows.

In My Head All Day!

This song has been in my head all day!!

Tegan and Sara- Closer

Another band I am so excited to see this summer when they tour with Fun.
Their new album is really great. It has a fresh feel to it.

Call It Off is another favorite from their album The Con. I love the simplicity and honesty of the video.

Enjoy

For The Love of Spazz

This song is fantastic for spazzing out on. I love every aspect of it, the climaxes musically are fantastic. I saw them live and this song by far was one of the songs I danced hard to.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Date With The Night

I don't know if this link will work. So here is another Date With The Night.

This song is off their first album, which blew my mind. It has a lot of good songs. They were initially recognized for Maps, but there are so many good songs on the album, titled Fever to Tell. (This does not include the underground stuff, that I am not familiar with. Another great song on this album is Cold Light.

Their second album I wasn't in love with till a few years after it came out. I had it but didn't really listen to it. I may have just been in a different phase, but my FAVORITE off that album is Phenomena!! Love it!

It's Blitz came out in 2009 which seems like yesterday. Again with some amazing songs, and some crazy videos, Zero and Heads Will Roll.

Their newest album Mosquito comes out April 16th, so stoked. Their newest single off the album is Sacrilege. I hope they come back to the Detroit Metro Area soon.

Enjoy

Ten Minutes Late

Today has been a hectic day. I woke up did homework, went to work and then killed the rest of my homework in two hours. Including a short answer essay- Pretty impresive if I do say so myself. The song that is playing in my head right now is:

I think this song is a good representation of my owning my homework.

I found this interesting video while searching for Pat Benatars version Nicki Bluhm & The Gamblers cover of Hit Me With Your Best Shot.

Enjoy!

Rethinking Today's Song

So today at work I was called a dyke, which made me laugh, because if you know me that isn't an insult. I am comfortable with my sexuality, it is only those who are uncomfortable who feel the need to be derogatory about it. It only makes you look ignorant to use such terminology, which she was.  Regardless, it made me want to post Same Love by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, but I have been on a Macklemore kick lately, and I posted it earlier this week. I thought I might find something else to share with you.

Passion Pit- Sleepyhead

I ran into Passion Pit on a T.V. program that featured up and coming artists. I fell in love with this song. If you play it loud enough the beats will hit your chest. I have seen them four times live. The first time being very close to the experience in the video and I danced my pants off! That is why I picked this version.

Enjoy!!

Joan Takes Me Back

In middle school, I will not lie I spent A LOT of time playing Donkey Kong on SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System for all you youngin's) in my parents basement. I also listened to albums while I played and Joan Osbourne's Relish was one of my all time favorites.

I bring to you one of my favorites by Joan Osbourne

The song was written by Bob Dylan.

My favorite lyrics in the song are:
"There's smoke on the water, been there since June. Tree trunks uprooted in the high crescent moon."

Enjoy, AND you get to watch a slide show of this persons watercolor work, SCORE!

"Never Wanted Your Love"

Today hasn't had any spectacular eye opening musical experience. Song of the Day comes from She and Him, a band I am super stoked to see live for the first time this up coming summer. They have a new album out May 7th and this is the first single off said album.

Here is another awesome video of theirs off the Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward- Stars Fell On Alabama from Hellogiggles Videochat Karaoke. M.Ward is a pretty amazing guitar player.

Air Drumming at a Red Light

So today I was suggested two songs and videos,

First was from a friend, Jeff. We talked about our guilty pleasure songs. Mine was from high school. Jessica Simpsons "I Wanna Love Your Forever" . I am not proud but I totally belted that one out when I was home alone. His was Devo's "Beautiful World". It is defiantly as Jeff said, it starts off nice and gets dark fast. The masked guy freaked me out a little.

Second was from my friend Jesse. We were discussing my "Coming to Macklemore" and he suggested I watch "And We Danced". Let me just say this video rocked my world. I think it is a must that I learn the synchronized dance sequence, Stat! Fantastic Bowie references.

All that aside, my Song of the Day is

It has been a long day, and I got out of class and I needed something to get me pumped to do homework. Which I am OBVIOUSLY working on. HAHA! There might have been some car dancing, and a fantastic air drumming at a red light ensued. Enjoy.

Song of the Day

According to my FiancĂ© I am a little late to the Macklemore bus. At least I found it in the end though I suppose. I am posting not just one song but his NPR's Tiny Desk Concert: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton. I feel like the presence he brought to such a tiny arena was so enormous it is worth sharing. I also enjoy his message on Equality for Same Sex Marriage, and the passion he brings to the topic.

This video features- "Same Love"
                              "Thrift Shop"
"Can't Hold Us feat. Ray Dalton"

Why Hello, Blogger Community

Hi, I'm Kate.

I am looking for an avenue to share thoughts, adventures, art, music and fun with the community.

I love music so here is...

Song of the Day: Haim: Don't Save Me
